How do you manage your domestic account receivables in China?

In order to better understand the corporate credit risk in China and help corporate manage their domestic trade credit risk, Coface, a world leader in credit insurance, factoring, ratings and company information and receivables management, has started the Survey of Corporate Credit Risk Management in China since 2003. Information on companies’ (both international & Chinese) general practices in handling domestic trade credit risk has been collected and compared to that of the industry standards. You are cordially invited to participate in the 2008 survey. All information you provide will be kept confidential and used for research purpose only.

According to the recent statistics released by China National Statistics Bureau, the amount of domestic account receivables has reached over RMB 4000 billion*, with an average increase of 17.2% on year to year basis. Besides, in the circumstance of a tightening monetary policy, surging cost and RMB appreciation, around 67,000 small and medium-sized enterprises in China went bankrupt in the first half year of 2008**.

In the past 3 years, Coface surveys showed that, mainly driven by fierce marketing competition, corporate adapts open account sales more and more widely. 69.3% of companies interviewed in 2007 had more than 50% of their total sales on open account, compared to 47.6 % in 2005, there was an increase of 45.6% from 2005 to 2007. 2% of payment amounts overdue has remained stable over the past 3 years, suggesting that this threshold should be the comfortable and cost-effective level for companies to manage their overdue accounts.
